At Mount Sinai

19 On the first day of the third month after the Israelites left Egypt(A)—on that very day—they came to the Desert of Sinai.(B) After they set out from Rephidim,(C) they entered the Desert of Sinai, and Israel camped there in the desert in front of the mountain.(D)

Then Moses went up to God,(E) and the Lord called(F) to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt,(G) and how I carried you on eagles’ wings(H) and brought you to myself.(I) Now if you obey me fully(J) and keep my covenant,(K) then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession.(L) Although the whole earth(M) is mine, you[a] will be for me a kingdom of priests(N) and a holy nation.’(O) These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”

So Moses went back and summoned the elders(P) of the people and set before them all the words the Lord had commanded him to speak.(Q) The people all responded together, “We will do everything the Lord has said.”(R) So Moses brought their answer back to the Lord.

The Lord said to Moses, “I am going to come to you in a dense cloud,(S) so that the people will hear me speaking(T) with you and will always put their trust(U) in you.” Then Moses told the Lord what the people had said.

Praise the Lord, you his servants;(B)
praise the name of the Lord.
Let the name of the Lord be praised,(C)
    both now and forevermore.(D)

    his glory above the heavens.(G)
Who is like the Lord our God,(H)
the One who sits enthroned(I) on high,(J)
who stoops down to look(K)
on the heavens and the earth?

He raises the poor(L) from the dust
    and lifts the needy(M) from the ash heap;
he seats them(N) with princes,
with the princes of his people.
He settles the childless(O) woman in her home
as a happy mother of children.

12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it.(A) 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die;(B) but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body,(C) you will live.(D)

14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God(E) are the children of God.(F) 15 The Spirit(G) you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again;(H) rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry, “Abba,[b] Father.”(I) 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit(J) that we are God’s children.(K) 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs(L)—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings(M) in order that we may also share in his glory.(N)

22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning(A) as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit,(B) groan(C) inwardly as we wait eagerly(D) for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.(E) 24 For in this hope we were saved.(F) But hope that is seen is no hope at all.(G) Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.(H)

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit(I) himself intercedes for us(J) through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts(K) knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes(L) for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

Philip(A) said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.(B) How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?(C) The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority.(D) Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.(E) 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes(F) in me will do the works I have been doing,(G) and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask(H) in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

15 “If you love me, keep my commands.(I) 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate(J) to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth.(K) The world cannot accept him,(L) because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[a] in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans;(M) I will come to you.(N) 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me.(O) Because I live, you also will live.(P) 20 On that day(Q) you will realize that I am in my Father,(R) and you are in me, and I am in you.(S) 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.(T) The one who loves me will be loved by my Father,(U) and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
